JETAA Ottawa hosted its first ever virtual book club!

This physical distancing-friendly event happened after the participants read Haruki Murakami’s classic novel “Kafka on the Shore”.The book could be read in any language or format, but the discussions was held in English. 

The book club was hosted on Zoom and led by veteran book-club alumnus and JETAA Ottawa Vice-President Brandon Wallace (Hyogo 2011-2013). This event was open to all JET alumni as well as friends and family of alumni!

Guests of the info session enjoyed Japanese food and drink while learning more about the JET Programme directly from members of the alumni association! Guests seemed had many questions and learned a lot through the presentations and conversations with former participants. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the event!

Alumni from the MEXT Scholarship Program and Working Holiday Visa were also present and official from the programs gave presentations.

FEBRUARY 8: Board Game Day and Karaoke Night

***Limited to JET alumni and plus-ones.***

Many JET alumni came out and escaped the cold with us over board games at The Loft. 

We then took a break for dinner and met up at Popstar Karaoke at 7 PM for another round of shenanigans. The coldest day of the year was no match for the enthusiasm of the attendees!

Board Game Day
Where: The Loft Board Game Lounge (2nd Floor, 14 Waller St)
When: 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM (or as late as they let us stay!)

Karaoke Night
Where: Popstar Karaoke (382 Rideau)
When: 7:00 PM to 10 PM

JANUARY 8: Luncheon at Ambassador Kawamura’s Residence

Five members of the executive committee attended an enjoyable luncheon at Ambassador Kawamura’s residence on January 8, 2020 to discuss Canada-Japan relations. This was the second meeting of the new Ambassador of Japan to Canada with members of JETAA Ottawa.
